I couldn’t even lift my 2 year old out of his bed.
I booked an appointment with the physiotherapist, afraid she’d put my arm in a sling of some kind. Quite the opposite.
“You need to move it more”, she said. “The pain is caused by staying still in one position for too long.”
Stagnation can cause cramping up. Discomfort. Pain. Just like in your career.
You need to keep your muscles moving. Invest in your development. Practical skills or ‘soft’ skills, you need to learn and grow.
It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of your job. How are you ever gonna make an hour, an afternoon, or even a whole day available for self-development?
So you don’t actively look for development opportunities. Decline them when they’re offered. Or even cancel last minute.
But this is not the solution. If you stop learning, it will cause discomfort in the long run. You will miss out on opportunities, skills, progression.
François Moscovici wrote last month (https://lnkd.in/ePA9rqZk) about the ‘rule of ten’: investing 10 days every year in your own development, to avoid 10% employment value depreciation. An interesting read.
What are you planning for your development?
