Or are you hiding like this goose in the high grass?
Visibility. We know we need to think about it and work at it. But we don’t want to.
Strange.
Evolutionarily, we want to be seen. If you were overlooked back in the days, you could have been left behind or have your territory invaded.
Yet this is exactly what we do to ourselves when we make ourselves invisible at work. Then we are overlooked and left behind.
Not promoted.
Not asked for advice.
Not challenged on another project.
Not invited to present at a conference.
Not asked to speak at an important meeting.
And so on.
That starts to lead to feelings of shame, even resentment.
And we start to feel disconnected from others.
Not a good place.
So we need to make ourselves more visible. How?
Well, I can tell you how I would do it. But it’s better you find ways that are personal and natural to you. Better chance of sustained success when it’s authentic.
We can explore that in coaching sessions.
One tip I will always give?
Start a brag sheet.
Your personal success log. An overview of your achievements.
So that when you make yourself visible, when you cut the high grass away, you can really shine.
